Mitch Nelson graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA in History and a Minor in Political Science in 1969. He received his JD from the Wayne State University Law School in June of 1972.

Mitch Nelson has been practicing law for the past 35 years. Including his career in Ann Arbor as the Chief Assistant Public Defender of Washtenaw County , Nelson has handled the representation of over 1000 clients in counties throughout the midwest. He has also handled more than 50 jury trials, hundreds of evidentiary hearings and other contested matters. His entire career has been devoted to the practice of criminal law.

Mitch Nelson has been an admitted member of the United States Supreme Court since 1990, and is an admitted member of the United State District Court for both the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan , and the United States Sixth Courts of Appeals. He is also a current member of the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan and National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys. It is a privilege and an honor to have Mitch as a valuable addition to the Johnson Law Group.
